Over the years, my photography interests have evolved due to my love of nature. I began my career with newspaper photography
in the 1980's. I wasn't happy with my assignments since I was only given women and childrens news/PR photos. I went on to
model portfolios, then changed once again to band photograhy followed by advertising. I now almost exclusively photograph
nature.
Taken at a park in St. Petersburg, FL. Anhingas and Commorants look very similar. They can be identified by their beaks.
The Anhinga's beak is pointed for spearing fish; while the Commorant's beak is hooked for grasping their fish. Both birds
are also known as "snakefish", since they swim with their bodies underwater with only their necks and heads sticking
out. They have no oils in their feathers to enable them to stay submerged. They must come out of the water to dry out in the
sun.
